Stella's Touch
One of the primary reasons animals are surrendered to shelters and rescues is the owner’s inability to afford veterinary care. The Stella’s Touch program was created in 2017 to assist pet owners in Brunswick County, NC who are facing financial hardship at a time when their pet needs veterinary care due to injury or illness. This program is dedicated to improving the animal welfare and maintaining the human-animal bond.

Stella's Touch may provide assistance to pet guardians in times of financial hardship when their pet is in a medical crisis, has a serious illness, or in cases of emergency. This is a one-time only grant of funds per family or address. It is not meant to be an ongoing source of funds for veterinary care.
Not every medical condition will be covered by this program. The following are not eligible for funding:
-
Routine care (wellness exams, vaccines, heartworm tests, heartworm and flea/tick preventatives)
-
Chronic conditions (ongoing treatment or medication for long-term illnesses or diseases)
-
End of life services
-
Heartworm treatment
-
Spay/neuter (please refer to our Spay/Neuter program for assistance)
These funds are for "owned" animals living indoors only, not for community cats or foster animals. We have separate programs for which community cat caretakers or rescue organizations can apply for assistance.

How Can You Help?
Stella’s Touch started with a donation from a family who wanted to make a difference in our community. The program was named to honor their miniature schnauzer Stella. She was very important in their lives, and they did not want other families’ pets to suffer during a time of crisis.
Funds are limited, and your tax-deductible donation can continue to help those in need.
