​Understanding TNR
 
​​There is only one way to solve the problem of unwanted cats and dogs: have all domestic animals spayed or neutered. Thanks to the concerted efforts of Paws-Ability, local animal rescue groups, and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services (BCSAPS), all animals now adopted in Brunswick County from any of these groups are spayed or neutered and vaccinated before they are adopted.

Paws-Ability also works with volunteers throughout the community who trap community (outdoor) cats and transport them to Fix A Friend, our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic, to be spayed or neutered. vaccinated against rabies and distemper, and "ear-tipped."  An ear tip is a universal sign that a community cat has been neutered and vaccinated, and anyone who encounters a cat with an ear tip knows that the cat is not reproducing and is protected against dangerous and communicable diseases.  Widely known as “Trap-Neuter-Return,” this allows the cat to remain in familiar territory, and continue to help reduce rodent population and other services.
