Community Cats / TNR

Understanding TNR
There is only one way to solve the problem of unwanted cats and dogs: have all domestic animals spayed or neutered. Thanks to the concerted efforts of Paws-Ability, local animal rescue groups, and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services (BCSAPS), all animals now adopted in Brunswick County from any of these groups are spayed or neutered and vaccinated before they are adopted.
Paws-Ability also works with volunteers throughout the community who trap community (outdoor) cats and transport them to Fix A Friend, our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic, to be spayed or neutered. vaccinated against rabies and distemper, and "ear-tipped." An ear tip is a universal sign that a community cat has been neutered and vaccinated, and anyone who encounters a cat with an ear tip knows that the cat is not reproducing and is protected against dangerous and communicable diseases. Widely known as “Trap-Neuter-Return,” this allows the cat to remain in familiar territory, and continue to help reduce rodent population and other services.
Paws-Ability is a member of Alley Cat Allies’ Feral Friends Network. We use their educational materials to help get our community’s TNR programs re-focused and back on track. By educating the public, recruiting and showing volunteers how to trap outdoor cats and transport them to a veterinarian or to Fix A Friend, we can reduce the number of homeless cats and kittens.
If you need assistance in Brunswick County with any outdoor cats who do not have a home and you may be feeding, please contact us.
Outside of Brunswick County, click here to find an organization within the Feral Friends Network that can assist you.
PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING YOUR NEXT PET FROM ONE OF BRUNSWICK COUNTY’S LOCAL RESCUE GROUPS OR COUNTY SHELTER.
