What is Paws-Ability?

Paws-Ability raises funds to assist local rescue groups and support our programs to improve animal welfare in Brunswick and New Hanover Counties in North Carolina.  Established in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are an all-volunteer organization.  We are proud of the fact that we pay no salaries. Over 94% of the funds raised goes directly to the animals.

We partner with local animal rescue groups and help fund the extraordinary medical costs of their animals so they can be adopted into loving, forever homes.

Paws-Ability also partnered with the Hope Harbor Home, Brunswick County’s only domestic violence shelter, to build a climate-controlled kennel for the pets of the shelter’s guests.  Prior to this, many women who had pets made the decision not to enter the shelter for their safety and well-being because they did not want to leave their pets behind.  Now, they can bring their pets with them, care for them, and keep them with their family as they move forward to a new home.  While in the shelter, the pets are brought up to date on vaccines, spayed or neutered, and any health problems are attended to.

In 2024, thanks to a grant from the Petco Love Foundation, Paws-Ability partnered with Brunswick County Sheriff's Animal Protective Services (BCSAPS) to hold vaccine clinics throughout Brunswick County, providing free distemper vaccines, provided by Petco Love, and free rabies vaccines, donated by BCSAPS. So far, we have provided over 600 vaccines to over 350 animals, and we're not finished yet! 

Throughout the year we raise funds at BandFest, our annual Golf Tournament, and other events.  You might even see us at local markets and festivals, where we have Paws-Ability t-shirts, hats, and other merchandise for sale, as well as literature on our organization and its programs.​
