Karen Fox of Beach Fox Pet Sitters, donated a beautiful shell pot to be raffled at Oyster Festival to benefit Paws-Ability. Several members worked on Saturday and Sunday to sell the raffle tickets.
We shared the booth with Karen Fox as she showed off her beautiful shell pots to bring in $500 in raffle sales to benefit Paws-Ability!
Thank you to Karen Fox for her generous donation of the pot and for sharing her Oyster Festival booth space with us . Thank you to Victoria Schacht, Valerie Blanchard, Cheri McLain and Evelyn Wooten for helping to sell the tickets and thank you to so many members who bought a raffle ticket! It was a cool weekend but the profits were hot! Deidre Perry of West First Street, Ocean Isle Beach won the raffle.
First Annual Calabash Seafood Festival & Car Show
Saturday, November 14
We gained 7 new members and $300 in sales and donations, but more than that, we learned that so many people know about us already. Word is spreading and that is good for us. Michael and Kim (Gold and Silver Connection in Calabash) are Paws-Ability members and supporters. They were in charge of the organization of the festival and were instrumental in getting our organization name chosen to benefit from the Festival proceeds. They saw that we got very visible space at the festival and it worked well for us. Cookies were a great idea once again! Who can resist a homemade cookie! The cookies drew people to us to ask questions and make donations and several to join our ranks. Thank you cookie makers!
We have a list of numerous people who want micro chips and this will allow us to host another clinic that will make more money and I got 3 people who are interested in fostering. Fostering will allow SOAR to take responsibility for a dog or cat that they do not physical have space for.
Overall, it was great festival for Paws-Ability and it would not have been possible to do it without the help of Anne Schenk, Katie Wallace, Rona Graham, Cindy Tarantino, Ellen Rothenberg, Janie Withers, Lisa Mosca, Ann Pike and Carolyn Jenks. Thanks to everyone.
Several animals in our shelters will benefit from your efforts and Paws-Ability grew stronger. There are so many small pieces to any puzzle. In the box the pieces might not look like much, and with time to put it together, these same pieces make a beautiful picture. We are making a beautiful picture for our community.
First Annual Crossfit Christmas Challenge
Our first annual Crossfit Christmas Challenge to benefit paws-Ability was a success! Even with the cold temperatures, we had a good turnout for our first 5K and Dog Jog. Costumes were great and a good time was had by all.
Please watch for pictures and video of the event below and on WECT. If you were able to attend the event, thank you for your support. If you could not, I will say that you missed a fun day and great hot chocolate on the beach! Maybe next year you too can feel the exhilaration of people and their dogs running on beautiful Sunset Beach!
We do have some event sweatshirts left over. They are white with the Paws-Ability logo dressed up for Christmas! If anyone is interested in purchasing one, they are $10 each. Let us know and we will deliver to you within a reasonable distance.
Paws-Ability's 1st Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament was a success. It completely sold out both for golfers and dinner-only guests. It couldn't have run as smoothly and been so successful without the help of many dedicated people. We sincerely thank everyone for all they did. The funds raised are already being put to good use.
Paws-Ability’s 2nd adoption fair met with some very hot weather on Saturday that did keep some visitors away, but Saturday was a good day for 5 animals! Ask these 5 animals if your efforts were appreciated! You will probably get a big sloppy kiss as a reward. Volunteers worked very hard to plan, organize and make this adoption fair a plus for our rescue shelters. I am sorry some did not attend.
Cat Tails had 2 kitties adopted. One was a black cat. In case you are not aware, black cats are the LEAST likely cats to find homes! Imagine that! If you are ever looking to adopt a cat from Cat Tails, remember these “black beauties” and give them a chance. Black cats need love too! Cat Tails had a feral baby from OIB that has taught us all a lesson. The kitty was born feral and now lays on her back for tummy rubs! If you every thought feral cats are different from any other domestic cat, this certainly shows there is no difference. Isn’t it amazing what a little love will do!
NC Rescue League had a small dog adopted. He was a terrier mix and left with his new family actually smiling!
Adopt an Angel brought 2 adult, large dogs, Hannah and Blackie. They were surrendered by an elderly couple when their living arrangements changed due to health. The dogs were very loved and cared for and both were trained very well. Both dogs were adopted together. What a lucky family they are!
Our children’s program, PETUCATION, chaired by Cameron Brand handed out lots of brochures to introduce the program to elementary schools in the county.
Best Friends Biscuits, our new business member showed off their hand made dog treats. Her treats are sold at the Coffee dog in Calabash if you need more.
The day actually made about $400 for our shelters thanks in part to our raffle items that were donated and those fabulous hot dogs!
A rather large THANK YOU goes out to Cheri Hewitt and GreenUp! Cheri has worked on this adoption fair all year. Without the efforts of all volunteers and planners, Saturday would never have happened. Thank you for your time, efforts and your caring that made this day a success. Know that your efforts mean 5 animals have found forever homes! I am always so proud of this organization!
